After ages of the tankless water heater manufacturer blaming a fixture manufacturer (and vice versa), Dale Sacry came out, given his experience with tankless systems. Even though the problem didn't recur during the visit, he walked me through possible causes, making it easy for me to diagnose when it recurred (a valve was getting clogged, allowing cold water to be drawn back up the recirculation line). He came back out and replaced the valve. The charges were reasonable for the short initial visit and short re-visit to make the replacement - I was paying for his time, expertise, and work, not inflated by arbitrary charges.
